Wisconsin Supreme Court Race
In the face of the five-alarm fire our democracy is facing, we must focus our energy on where we can make an impact. The Wisconsin state Supreme Court election on April 1 is our first opportunity to build opposition power, protect important rights, and send a clear message of resistance against the new administration.
Flip the Vote’s Wisconsin grassroots partners Black Leaders Organizing for Communities and Voces de la Frontera are mobilizing thousands of voters to elect Judge Susan Crawford and maintain the 4-3 liberal majority on the state Supreme Court. In the coming years a progressively controlled court could:
Eliminate gerrymandered congressional districts which could have a significant impact on regaining control of the US House in 2026
Ensure fair certification of Wisconsin’s 2028 electoral college votes
Establish greater abortion rights by overturning the state’s 1849 abortion ban
Expand voting rights and protect against harmful voter suppression laws in the state
Reinstate collective bargaining for public workers, a significant win for labor unions
Hear BLOC Executive Director Angela Lang give quick context on the race and explain our partners’ unique ability to cut through the election noise to turn out voters in this special video created for the Flip the Vote family.
Protecting the pro-democracy majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court this April is one of the most powerful ways we can take a stand for democracy nationwide, and we invite you to join us in this effort.
Next up from us: In early March, look out for our 2023-24 impact report. The work that went into that report is part of an intensive period of data-gathering, reflection, and planning for Flip the Vote. We will be back in touch in the late spring/early summer with our strategy to continue our collective fight for a more just, equitable, and inclusive democracy.
